Shirley was one of the judges for the event in Breckenridge, Colorado.
An accomplished sculptor and painter, Shirley La Ree Olson seeks to create a reflective moment in the viewer`s heart and mind. She portrays figurative images in sculpture with perception of character and as “three dimensional moments.”
The passion of the child, “LaRee”, was art. Her formal art education came much later, however. After raising five sons in Evergreen, Colorado. Shirley earned degrees from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and the University of Colorado. Now her passion for art is rekindled through painting, and occasional workshops.
Shirley is of the fifth generation of Colorado pioneers and a former signature member of Women Artists of the West.

The inspiration for this scupture came from my being a fifth generation of Colorado pioneers.
Winning first place at the National Greeley Art Mart. , Greeley Colorado
The Scupture is created in natural clay. It is a low fired clay, a paper clay that has unique features and freedoms. Some of the sculptural freedoms have never been possible with conventional clays.
Paper clay is as the name suggests is a half solid fluid plastic modellling mix of paper pulp and water.
Exhibition at The Colorado History Museum in Denver. The show involved members of the professional sculptors` group, from the Denver Art Students League. They invited several other well know sculptors to be in the show called “Joy of Sculpture “
I use many different mediums, such as clay, oil, acrylics, watercolor and pastels. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I enjoy traveling and taking photos in my spare time and many of my pieces are directly influenced by these travels and viewing the beauty of nature, my love of recreating these images, is shown in my artwork.
